April 16, 2026The Staff Selection Commission conducts the Combined Higher Secondary Level examination for various post like Lower Devision Clerk (LDC), Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA), and Data Entry Operator (DEO). For certain posts candidates are required to qualify Data Entry Speed Test (DEST). And SSC has released the tentative exam calendar for the year 2026-27.

DEST rules for CHSL
- Typing Rules for LDC and JSA Post
- Language : English or Hindi
- Duration : 10 Minutes
- Speed Requirement : 35 wpm approximately 10500 KDPH for Hindi 30 wpm approximately 9000 KDPH.
- Backspace : Fully enabled .
- Scroll : Manual.
- Highlight : There will be no highlight and no error highlight.
- Rules for DEO Typing
- Duration : 15 Minutes
- Speed : 15000 Key Depressions per hour
Note : The typing material for the post of DEO Grade A will be available in printed format. The candidate will have to type it on the computer screen. It will also be displayed on the computer screen. (This rule applies to English only )

Error Calculation
The calculation of error in SSC CHSL and CGL is divided into full mistake and half mistake.
- Full Mistake(1.0 error )
- Wrong word Typed
- Omitted Word
- Extra repetition
- Spelling error
- Incomplete word
- Half Mistake (0.5 error )
- Space Errors
- Capitalization Error
- Punctuation Errors (e.g. using ; instead of : ).
- Transposition Errors (e.g. typing “I hope” as “hope I”)
- Paragraph Errors ( failing to use Tab key )
